As an artistic response to rising social division and isolation, Verbunden unfolds a far-reaching dimension: in a digitalized world, it addresses the loss of connectedness — both with oneself and with others — and counters it with a poetic gesture of closeness. Soft, padded cushions up to three meters long, shaped like gentle, oversized arms, invite us to lean in, to be held, to curl up together, and simply to play. The installation acts as both a physical and emotional counter-strategy to the forces currently straining our society, creating a space in which negative emotions can be met through empathy, intimacy, and shared experience as a creative response. The decision to put the smartphone aside — a necessary condition for experiencing the artwork, since both hands are needed — becomes a symbolic act of resistance against digital mental load, fragmentation, and loneliness. Verbunden stands in direct contrast to passive scrolling, urging us to put our phones down and choose genuine connection instead. It invites active participation, encouraging togetherness over digital detachment.
